Braised tofu with shitake mushroom...

This is another dish that we had in the vegetarian cafe that our friend brought us to. It is Braised tofu with shitake mushroom. The dish here comes in a small portion with steamed rice for only 1 person. Each of us ordered different dish so we can share.

Look at this slice of tofu, it soft and juicy (it soaked up the gravy while braising)

This is actually a vegetarian dish but i added some slice meat (chicken or pork) inside for more flavour. Again if you want it to be a vegetarian dish just omit the slice meat.

Homemade tofu...HERE

There is tofu, shitake mushrooms, leek, carrot and some seasoning in this dish. The tofu is slice into 4 thick strips  (a piece) and shallow fried until it is lightly brown.  Saute the chopped white part of the leek* with some oil then stir fried in slice meat(if you are adding) leek leaves, carrot and shitake mushrooms in a wok and seasoning and keep frying for 2-3 minutes until all veges are soften . Pour in some mushroom stock**, add in tofu, simmer until carrots is soften (5-8 minutes) then thicken the gravy with some corn starch water. Serve hot with steamed rice.

*White part of the leek can use as a garlic, just clean and chopped the white part finely.
**Clean and rinse the dried shitake mushroom. Soaked it until it is soften and keep the stock for cooking.

Shark Fin Dumpling ~

This Shark Fin Dumpling (yu chi gow), is one of my favorite dumpling. Although it is named Shark Fin Dumpling, but they contain no actual shark fin in it. Some say the look and shape of the dumpling does look like shark fin and other do include in imitation shark fin, though. I am lucky to have spotted this long hibernating in the book shelf chinese dim sum book ‘香港地道小吃’ translated as 'Hong Kong Authentic Tapas' Well, Do, you find this look like Shark's Fin?? Filling for the ingredients are prawn, mince meat, carrot, yam bean and black fungus. Get ready the filling and the wanton wrappers. This is the parade of my Shark's Fin dumpling ... lol Homemade parchment paper liner. Arrange them neatly into the bamboo steamer. HOT! HOT! From the steamer!! Loaded with filling ..YUM! ENJOY~ Shark Fin Dumpling (yu chi gow) (Scallop dumpling /Cilantro dumpling - depends which filling you using) Recipe adapted from  ‘香港地
