This is another Kelantan dessert and this one is a pretty one. It is named Cek Mek Molek which means Beautiful Lady. It is made from only 3 ingredients and this dessert is simply delicious.
再来一样来者Kelantan的糕点'美人糕''Cek Mek Molek'. 这个糕点呢,只需3种材料就可以做了.简单吧!!
Cek Mek Molek
recipe source: WendyinKK
(I make half of this recipe. i get 8 cek mek moleks)
500gm of steamed sweet potatoes
100gm plain flour
coarse grain sugar for filling
oil for frying
1. While the sweet potatoes were hot, mash them fine and add in the flour. (i steamed my sweet potatoes with skin on and peeled off after it is cooked. Then mash them fine with a fork and add in flour) You may not need all or you may need more. Just add until a pliable dough is formed.
2.Divide dough into equal pieces (30gm each).
3.Lightly dust hands with flour and flatten each piece of dough. Fill with one tsp sugar. Seal up and make it into an oblong shape with pointy ends. Repeat until all the dough is filled and formed.
4.Deep fry the cek mek on MEDIUM heat until a crust forms on the outside. Drain and let it cool down before serving.
*Take note that white sweet potatoes are drier and might need less flour.
** I used the mixer to mash the hot sweet potatoes
*** Fry it soon after you've done forming. Don't wait too long because the sugar will melt upon contact with the moisture from the dough.

First attempt was not so molek hor...:(

Wendy says the filling is very hot and burning ... must watch out. I did not burnt my tougue BUT i burnt my fingers when trying to break open these cek mek..:p
This is the first piece which is not frying enough 'see' the sugar did not melt nicely..
so the second one i fry a little longer and it is as above. Nice and yummy ^_^
1.. Mash steamed sweet potatoes
2.. Add in flour and mixed
3.. Mixed into a pliable dough (mine is a bit soft but can be handle)
4.. Divide them into 30 gm eaches
5.. Flatten the dough, hold in your hand. Making like a flat bowl shape.
6.. Filled with 1 teaspoon of coasre sugar.
7.. Start sealing both sides from the end.
8.. Towards the other end.
9.. My Cek Mek is done.
10.. Check to see all sides are sealed nicely.
11.. All done.
12. These are the cooked Cek Mek Moleks .
Really to have one with Kopi O.. ^_^
