When i know that Bake Along #27 is baking Scones I am worried and excited. Why worried? I have never tasted a scone before..but I know what is a scone though..
I don't know why..just never had a chance to try it ... I am wondering how does it taste like...:D
Why excited? I am going to bake some scones.
I found a few scone recipes from google search. Finally, i choose this one...
'Orange and Dark Chocolate Buttermilk Scone' from Joy the Baker.
'Orange and Dark Chocolate Buttermilk Scone'
This is one of Joy's favorite way to count to five ...^^
1~ get ready the dry and the wet ingredients
2~ pour the wet into the dry, mix into a dough and cut into 4 or 6 pieces.
3~ Arrange into a lined baking tray and send to the oven.
4~ Its all done.
5~ serve warm with some jam and butter...this scone is very delicious too eating on its own ~
This is the story of my scones from 1 to 5..^^
~this is my homemade Roselle jam~
~I can tell you now how does a scone taste to me..it is so delicious. I like the crunchy outside and the melt in the mouth texture inside. When it melts the taste and the scent of the chocolate chip and the orange zest is so awesome.
Orange and Dark Chocolate Buttermilk Scones
Recipe is from Joy the Baker with a slight changes.makes four large or six small scones (i make mine into 6 small scones)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tbsp granulated sugar
2 tsp orange zest
2 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
6 tbsp(85.05gms) cold unsalted butter
1 large egg yolk
1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp cold buttermilk
(i substitue my with this Lemon and Milk)
1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
(i use semi sweet chocolate chips)
To do:
1) Preheated oven at 425F or 218C. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside.
2) In a mxing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, orange zest, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. I use my fingers to rub the butter and the dry ingredients together.
3) In another bowl, combine egg yolk and buttermilk and beat lightly with a fork. Add to flour mixture all at once, stirring enough to make a soft dough. Fold in the chocolate chips.
4) Turn out onto a floured board and knead for 15 times. Roll or pat out into a 1-inch thickness. Cut into 4 large or 6 small square. Place on prepared baking tray and bake for 12-15 minutes. These are best to serve immediately with butter and jam.

Hi Mui Mui, scones, plain or with raisins as well tea biscuits are my all time favourites.
ReplyDeleteAnd your scones looks delightfully delicious.
I love the colour and texture.
You are good, outstanding!
Looking at your beautiful scones, I can practically get the lovely scent from where I am.
And there is nothing more appealing on this planet than that of a beautiful mother, wife in the act of cooking or baking for her loved ones.
Mui Mui, I am giving you here one of the world's most famous scones, eaten and acclaimed by Presidents, Prime Ministers, Royalty and Hollywood celebrities....writers Rudyard Kipling, Ernest Hemingway to name a few....they who have stayed at the Raffles Hotel Singapore.
Singapore Raffles hotel Tropical Scones. 65 g : Sugar
65 g : Butter
1 - : Eggs
450 g : Flour
30 g : Baking powder
250 ml : Milk
65 g : Raisins
1 - : Eggs
salt, pepper to taste
Pre heat the oven to 200c.
Combine the butter and sugar in a cake mixer.
Mix until fluffy and creamy, then add the egg.
Add the flour and baking powder and mix until a crumble forms.
Pour in the milk and mix to a smooth texture.
Do not overwork as the mixture will toughen.
Add the raisins. Lightly flour a smooth surface and roll out the dough to about 3cm thick.
Use the cookie cutter to cut out individual pieces. Glaze with the egg mixture.
Place the scones on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from the oven, allow to cool and serve, ideally, with kaya, jam, clotted cream, farm-fresh butter and a hot pot of tea.
Have fun.....and send me a telegram when you do try it.
You stay beautiful, and keep a song in your heart.
Best regards,
Lee.
